Famous for its beaches, shopping and culture, Barbados has long been the ultimate holiday destination. Waterside is located on the West Coast of Barbados, also known as the 'Platinum Coast' for its fine, white sands and associations with the rich and famous who often make it their home.
Holetown is a few minutes away, with supermarkets, duty-free shopping, restaurants and bars. The restaurants range from affordable to exclusive, and the newly-completed Limegrove shopping centre offers both stylish brand-name shopping and a buzzing weekend nightlife. Speightstown, a little further up the coast and retaining more of the Colonial style of buildings, is a lovely place to stroll the esplanade.
The world-famous Sandy Lane Resort is just up the coast from Waterside, an easy stroll up the beach. The Sandy Lane golf courses are only a few minutes' drive away, and the Royal Westmoreland Golf Course is also to be found nearby, just past Holetown.
Watersports, catamaran cruises and 'turtle trips' are available all up and down this coast. On the weekend, be sure to keep an eye out for the 'fish fries' and other outdoor cooking events which dot the coastal highway - you'll usually spot the good ones by the crowds of people gathering around the glowing barbeques!
